Having spent time working alongside one of our RAID engineers we found some complications with Drobo Data Storage. Data Robotics uses a proprietary RAID level known as Drobo Beyond RAID. This in itself means that specialist skills are required to perform Drobo Beyond RAID recovery and the chances of causing permanent damage to your data by trying to recover it yourself are very high.

Furthermore, Beyond RAID is not pure RAID. It utilises a mix of RAID 1 and RAID 5 technology with the typical JBOD characteristics, enabling the use of hot-swap hard drives and capacity, or volume upgrades on the fly.
